The 1747-BSN Series A module is an Allen-Bradley SLC 500 backup scanner module featuring a backplane current of 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC while the cable type used on the unit is the Belden 9463 cable. The 1747-BSN Series A module is compatible with the SLC 5/02, 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 processors. The unit features a 6-pin Phoenix connector and comes with a high-speed communication channel between the 2 modular SLC 500 processors. The 1747-BSN Series A module comes with a backup system that uses a set of modules and comes with 1 or more modules that resides in the primary system. The 1747-BSN Series A module also comes with 1 or more complementary modules that are in the secondary or backup system. The primary system is responsible for controlling the operations of the remote I/O while the secondary system is responsible for monitoring the communications of the module by using the high-speed serial link.

The Allen-Bradley 1747-BSN Series A module features the ability to switch from 1 communication channel to another, ensuring a continuous flow of information. The initial channel is configurable as the remote I/O channel or the Data Highway Plus (DH+) channel. The second channel is 1 that is used for switching 1 RS232/485 channel so as to provide a connection for the electronic operator interfaces. During the transfer of control from a particular processor to another, the output modules in the remote chassis of the 1747-BSN Series A module is set to maintain the unit’s last state until the secondary processor program takes control.
