    Description of 1747-L514

    The Allen-Bradley 1747-L514 is a SLC 500 processor. This module is part of the modular style hardware that is installed in slot 0 of the 1746 chassis. It features a 4K memory and built-in DH485 communication interface. This processor has a backplane current draw of 0.090 A at 5VDC. It supports up to 3 I/O chassis and maximum of 30 slots.


    The Allen-Bradley 1747-L514 is an SLC 500 processor unit. This module is also termed as an SLC 5/01 controller which is a single slot width controller. It mounts to the slot 0 of any 1746 modular chassis. It comes with a 4K user memory and embedded DH-485 communication interface.

    The 1747-L514 is designed for use in small and medium automation requirements. It is capable of controlling a maximum number of 30 I/O modules which can be distributed up to a maximum of 3 1746 chassis. It supports implementation of extended I/O and remote I/O chassis using a variety of supported communication adapter by this SLC 500 controller.

    The 1747-L514 has an electrical current load of 0.090 at 5VDC. It has a minimum power consumption of 1.75 Watts. The embedded DH-485 port supports use of the 1761-NET-AIC or the Advanced Interface Converter (AIC) module. Additionally, the memory tables of the SLC 5/01 is accessible using the Allen-Bradley Data Table Access module (DTAM).

    The 1747-L514 may be installed with an optional non-volatile memory. Non-volatile memory are in the form of Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). Compatible EEPROM are 1747-M1with 1K User Words EEPROM, 1747-M2 with 4 K User Words EEPROM with a 1747-M5 memory module adapter socket. EEPROM modules may be used to burn programs stored in the built-in memory which is a Random Access Memory (RAM). By burning program to the non-volatile memory, user program may be automatically loaded once the controller is power cycled.

    It uses the 1747-BA lithium battery assembly with a 30-minute capacitor life and a lithium battery with a 2-year lifespan for backup power for the standard RAM. The 1747-L514 has a maximum bit execution time of 4µs and an overall module scan time of 8ms/K. During a temporary power loss, the program scan on the module can take from 20ms to 3s depending on the power supply that is loading. It comes with a base DH-485 communication capability which can only act in a slave capacity (Receiving) in the programming channel. The 1747-L514 has an ambient operating temperature range of 0-60°C (32-140°F) at 5-95% non-condensing relative humidity range, and it is designed to sustain an operational shock of 30G, and a vibration of 2.5G at 57-2000Hz. The 1747-L514 is C-UL, UL, and CE-certified, and it offers a NEMA standard ICS 2-230 industrial noise immunity.

    The 1747-L514 Series B processor is an Allen-Bradley SLC 500 processor. This processor features up to 960 maximum I/O points with 480 analog I/O points while the user memory can store up to 4000 instructions. The 1747-L514 Series B processor has a program scan time rating of 8 milliseconds. The recommended operating temperature range is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius while the backplane current is rated at 105 milliamps at 24 Volts DC voltage and it is rated 350 milliamps at 5 Volts DC voltage. The 1747-L514 Series B processor features the DH-485 communication protocol and the backup memory that is an EEPROM unit. The unit features up to 30 chassis module slots with 3 I/O chassis and the I/O scan time is rated at 2.6 milliseconds.

    All of the data that the 1747-L514 Series B processor examines or changes is normally stored in files in the data storage areas of the memory unit. The storage areas keep the data that is received from the input modules and the data that is going to be sent to the output modules and that represents the decisions made by the logic. In addition, the memory stores the intermediate results made by the logic and the preloaded data, including the presets and the recipes. The users can create the program files for the program logic that is specialized depending on the method that is used. The common programming methods include ladder logic programming, sequential function charts programming, and structured text programming.
